Safety
The safety of our students is our number 1 priority. All new bus drivers must complete a minimum of 15 hours of classroom training and 12 hours of behind-the-wheel training with a State certified instructor. All bus drivers must submit to random drug and alcohol testing and their driving records are monitored. Each day every bus driver must complete and document a pre-trip inspection on their bus. Each bus contains a comprehensive set of paperwork that includes a detailed route sheet, seating chart, route hazards survey, and emergency care cards. All regular route Tri-Valley buses are equipped with 2-way radios and video/audio recording equipment.
Operations
The Tri-Valley School District is comprised of 230 square miles covering portions of Muskingum and Coshocton counties. We employ 28 regular bus drivers, 24 substitute bus drivers, 2 mechanics, 1 part-time mechanic, and 1 transportation supervisor. We have 35 school buses and 1 school van to cover our 28 regular routes, educational and athletic trips, and to use as a spare if a bus is in the garage for repair. Our buses travel an average of 3,330 miles per day or approximately 600,000 miles per year on regular routes and 30,000 miles per year on educational and athletic trips.
Responsibility
Transporting children is a shared responsibility between home and school. The district is responsible for children once they board the bus. Families are responsible for the safety and supervision of their children to and from the designated bus stop as well as while they are waiting for school transportation.
The district also asks that parents reinforce with their children the importance of obeying the bus rules. Such rules ensure the safety and welfare of all young riders. If a child repeatedly violates these rules, thus jeopardizing everyone's safety, the student may ultimately be denied the privilege of riding the bus. Thus, parent support for behaving appropriately in transit is essential.
If you have a problem or concern related to the bus, you are encouraged to write the driver a note or to phone (740)754-6418 to reach the bus garage. Please try not to interrupt the bus schedule by talking directly with the driver while he or she is on the route.
